The proceeds of this track are to support Christian and the curanderos (healers) of the Peruvian Amazon. A portion of the proceeds will also go toward helping various sustainable community initiatives in Peru.

Here's the story: Peru, Chuluchaki Lodge, Amazon Jungle, two hours by boat outside of Iquitos.

The country of Peru relies on tourism as one of its main economic sources. Since the start of the pandemic, this economic source came to a halt. Over the past two years, the people of Peru and the communities in the Amazon have suffered greatly – not just from the health implications of Covid, but from the financial hardship that resulted from the pause in tourism.

Without tourists coming to Peru, the Chuluchaki jungle lodge was abandoned. This was the site in 2019, when a collaboration was forged, not knowing that this synchronous moment would later find purpose in helping the people of Peru and much of the world.

In December of 2019, Christian Jiminez Barrera, a curandero (healer), born into a lineage of Shaman’s of the Amazon, facilitated a plant medicine ceremony. In this ceremony, Christian performed his various Icaros, which are medicinal songs used for healing. Christian asked for protection from the plants and animals of the Amazon, connecting with their spirits, speaking to them to aid in the cleaning and healing of the people in the ceremony. REŸES was one of these people, and he recorded the ceremony with an unknown musical intention.

As the pandemic unfolded, the curanderos continued to do what they do best: heal people. What they couldn’t do; however, was heal their community that was devastated by their reliance on tourism. Meanwhile, in Tulum, MX, this song was being created by REŸES.

“These people spend 100% of their time and energy healing people, they are the doctors and first responders of the amazon. I felt that they needed to be helped like they selflessly help people from all over the world every day. Their healing creates a ripple effect that spreads worldwide. I felt like I was creating more than a song, but a collaboration of communities, looking out for one another.” said REŸES.

REŸES is on a mission is to highlight the queens and kings of our Earth through music. He has found that his music is better when infusing a level of service to it, and believes that when we create with intention, we can raise the vibration of the world.
